If you're interested, one of the biggest Aboriginal bands to break through in mainstream music here in Australia was Yothu Yindi. They had a massive hit Treaty in 1991 - the lead singer has recently been back in the news after battling alcoholism. He is featured on a recent Australian documentary series which you might enjoy. He is, after all, a leading Australian educator.

Graham, we have been reading Australian travel literature, and I am now writing a paper on an article about Australian travel writing. One thing the author talks about, of course, is black/white relationships. The connection is, perhaps, tenuous, but when I watched the video, it seemed to support the point I was trying to make pretty well.

I love the music, but the way! And I have subscribed the their Activizm feed, so I imagine I am going to be learning more about Australia all the time!

While we should begin where the students are, it isn't always easy to find this out. Furthermore, I have students testing into the same level who are miles apart in proficiency, so the tests don't really help all that much. Good luck with finding them and bringing them along.

I love TED! Not really able to use it with my current position (K-4) but used it with my 7-8 graders. I can see where getting an older student hooked on TED would be a best educational practice!

A partner is woe. I have spent hours these last two weeks and face many more hours trying to fix problems created by the latest upgrade of Angel. Our tech people are sympathetic and keep apologizing, but they don't seem to get any support from the tech people at Angel (which was recently purchased by Blackboard).

Oh for the days when teachers could teach. I consistently use technology, but I would much rather be improving my PowerPoints or integrating something new or not so new into my classes. Instead, I have to figure out to get what used to work to work again.

Agreed. The same should be for learning in other languages as well. I have found a lot of language courses teach you the names of objects and animals, colors, basic small talk, how to use the restroom and how to order a meal.

This does not help you when you actually visit that country, no one speaks your language, and no one sticks to the formal conversation you're aware of.

I can only imagine what it must be like coming to the US and knowing only, "Hello" and "How are you?" and then having someone greet you with "WHHAAZZZZUUUUP!"
